Does your company have the updated I-9 Form?

Two different expiration dates exist on the current version of Form I-9, does your company have the version that expires 7/31/26 or 5/31/27?
The 08/01/2023 edition of Form I‑9 exists with two different expiration dates printed on it:
07/31/2026
05/31/2027
Both versions are valid. Both can be used for now.
Neither needs to be replaced before July 31 of this year.
The actual requirement is this:
Switch to the newer 05/31/2027 version by July 31, 2026.
That’s it. No scramble. No mass updates. No panic.
But here’s the part you might be overlooking as a company owner:
If a simple form update from the government sparks confusion…
what happens when it’s time for reverifications, purging old I‑9s, or responding to an audit request?
I‑9 compliance isn’t complicated — it’s just unforgivingly precise.
Clear processes matter.
Accurate timelines matter.
And having someone who knows the terrain matters most.
